What’s your opinion about net neutrality? Should companies have the right to restrict the speed at which you access websites around the WWW?
Here is an article I was reading about the 7 worst case scenarios if Net Neutrality disappeared.
Here is the list of the scenarios:
My personal favorite? Scenario 7. The other ones are scary enough all together, but this one hit home for me on the scary-meter.
If Net Neutrality disappears, we come that much closer to 1984. The Googles and the Comcasts of this world would control everything–even more than they already do: content, access, hardware. You name it. They control speed, they control freedom of speech. They render personal expression (like this blog) meaningless. The Internet would become the provider of “The Truth” as opposed to right now where all the different “Truths” meet.
Choose your worst scenario and let me know what you think.
Update: Well, it seems that now we have come to lobbying, politics, activist groups that defend net neutrality. Since Big Business has the money to thwart us from our rights we will lose yet another battle against the greed of politicians and multi-nationals who just want more and more. The FCC is voting on net neutrality. check it out.
